Flear Farm is family-owned and run by us, Camilla and Barney Fawcett, assisted by our little boys Reuben and Percy. We look forward to welcoming you soon. We live here on-site and take great pleasure in welcoming families for lovely relaxing holidays with us in our beautiful valley.
The Flear estate nestles amidst the rolling hills of the South Hams, in South Devon. It is made up of a nest of charming cottages and a principle house, embraced by 27 acres of beautiful sprawling countryside, including Flear Wood. Flear’s small river flows towards the Kingsbridge estuary and the sea beyond.
The nearby stunning beaches and coastline almost surround us here, to the South, East and West. The South Hams connects to the rest of Devon via Dartmoor National Park to the North. The pretty town of Kingsbridge, with its cafés, restaurants and quirky shops is only a 10-minute drive, and the nearest village boasts an excellent gastro pub. A short walk down our lane leads to Buckland Tout Saints Hotel – a superb unfussy country hotel with an excellent bar menu and a nationally renowned a la carte.
It is an ideal holiday location if you want to leave behind the strains of city living and relax in a peaceful rural setting. You can wander along pretty streams, explore our rambling woods and trek over undulating hills. In spring, a sea of bluebells carpets the woodland floor and buttercups fill our meadows, in summer a range of blooming flowers decorate the gardens of Flear, and in autumn the apple orchard is laden with fruit, while wild garlic and horse chestnuts, sloes and blackberries abound.
The name ‘Flear’ is Saxon. In 1268, Baldwyn de la Flere was granted lands in this area, where farming goes back for more than 1000 years.
Flear offers an ideal environment to couples on romantic jaunts and nature-lovers who appreciate the beauty of Devon’s countryside and coastline. During the school holidays, it is popular with families who make use of the special facilities provided for children, toddlers and babies including the well-equipped indoor and outdoor play areas and large indoor pool (kept above 30 deg). The off-peak months attract many young couples with pre-school children who return to Flear year after year.
