There are now even more treats for tots now in the Playbarn, with our new Soft Play area!
After the biggest Storm we’ve had in years (and a somewhat sleepless night for us), it was time for us all to enjoy the glorious outdoors again, with families playing tennis today and us replacing a few roof slates so we’re back to normal and so lucky! The local roads are all open and the South Hams has weathered the Storm very well, thankfully!
We’re fine! Flear Farm is open for business and we glad to report in excellent condition despite the unprecedented weather! Being set amongst the rolling hills of classic English Countryside is not only romantic, we’re finding out that it is very practical too. The winds are greatly reduced here as we’re protected by the hills around, and the amazing amount of rain that has caused so much chaos to other parts of the country is very efficiently carried quickly out to Sea by our rivers – including our very own river here at Flear that has been working hard and very successfully these past few weeks.
The rail lines have been hit hard but the roads in and out of South Devon are very accessible and are largely unaffected once you’re in the South Hams.
A big thanks to the Weather Channel for selecting us to be part of their piece on “The UK’s finest Country Getaways…”
Today’s beach is Bantham. This bay has a huge sandy beach especially at low tide. The slope down to the water is so slight that you can wade out several hundred yards and still be only waist deep and as such the water is glorious.
This is a great choice for swimming, the long sandy bay heats up nicely at low tide so the water is warmer for swimming and the bay is quite well sheltered, although there are full-time lifeguards on duty, keeping a general eye on things.
There is an excellent beachside cafe/restaurant that also does an early supper for those who have early bedtimes…
With Spring and Summer in mind, Camilla and I were thinking of all the lovely beach days we had last year with the family. We are so blessed with the surrounding beaches, bays and coves on our doorstep, that we thought we’d mention our favourites. Today it’s Bigbury…
With it’s sandy beaches, lots of space and panoramic views, Bigbury has such a lot of variety that you could visit every day for a week and still be finding a fresh view or a new aspect to love about it.
We know Christmas has past but we just wanted to show you a quick picture of Granary in all its Christmas glory after its fantastic make-over.
More pictures to follow of the hard work we have been doing in 2013 to upgrade and revamp our lovely cottages.
Make the festive period really special this year with a stay with us here at Flear Farm. All our guests will be treated to the following:
- A sumptous festive hamper filled with local delights, along with a bottle of Champagne and Christmas cake to get you going!
- The cottages will be made all the more cosy by locally sourced real Christmas trees decorated classically with fairy lights and all the trimmings.
- Our Playbarn Wendy House is to be transformed into a Christmas Grotto where Santa will pay a visit on Christmas eve for all those who have been good this year.
Along side these extra treats you simply have the wealth of facilities and beauty of Flear that simply cannot be found elsewhere.
A big thanks to all the families staying at Flear this Half-Term holiday for coming to our Bonfire and Fireworks display, it was lots of fun!
The evening started with the Bonfire, using old wood and timber collected around the Estate, with Mulled wine for the grown-ups and glow bracelets for the kids.
Once the Bonfire was roaring nicely it was time to unleash the Fireworks Display!
With trick-or-treating, pumpkins galore and lots of excitement, our families had lots of fun this Halloween with an excellent effort put in by all!
The Playbarn received a visit from witches, bats, spiders and of course pumpkins…
Finally, A huge thank you to all the families who made this week so special!
